I’ve discovered just how difficult writing can be. Motivation has always been a challenge for me, but I don’t want my ideas to die. My passion for this novel has grown significantly as I have continued writing, but I had to take a break. I’ve focused most of my efforts on writing, revising, and rewriting the first 7 chapters over and over again until I was satisfied. While I have enjoyed the process, it is also pretty draining. My perfectionism makes it hard to be stamp my seal of approval on the chapters, but I’ve gotten up to chapter 7 into the alpha stage of review.
I’ve sent chapter 1 to a bunch of people, but very few have actually taken the time to read it. It’s disheartening, but one of the people has been pushing me to send them more chapters as the story develops and I’ve sent up to chapter 6 to them. Having that validation, even though it’s just one person, is empowering. It pushes me to want to keep writing, but it always helps having a bit of a push.
To do this, I decided to commission someone to work on the cover for the book. In chapter 1, Jesse describes putting up a billboard that he is incredibly proud of. I have used it as the basis for the cover and already have the initial sketches which I wanted to share. I find it super exciting that the story is taking shape and seeing the initial pieces of the book coming together makes the realization of it all the more real.
